An armed attack against National Guard personnel in the community of Santa Clara de González, in Galeana, resulted in three civilians being sentenced to 17 years in prison following an operation stemming from intelligence and national security work. The attack occurred while the officers were conducting surveillance and prevention operations in an area that, in recent years, has been used as a corridor for criminal activity between Nuevo León and neighboring states. Federal investigations established that Adrián “N”, Abel “N”, and Ángel “N” participated in the armed confrontation with federal forces. During the legal proceedings, eight firearms, 27 magazines, 1,273 rounds of ammunition, three vehicles, cell phones, and tactical equipment bearing the insignia of a criminal group were seized. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) on charges related to possession of restricted weapons, attempted homicide, and attacks against public officials. The Galeana region has been considered strategic for security operations and the control of criminal assets due to its highway connections and remote rural areas. Federal authorities maintain a permanent presence in the area, seeking to reinforce public order, regional stability, and the rule of law following several violent incidents in southern Nuevo León. Will federal pressure succeed in curbing the operations of armed groups in this region?
