On 9 May 2026, the Nigerian Air Force launched air strikes against a Niger militia in Kusasu, also spelled Kushako (Shiroro, Niger), killing scores of militants. Locals, however, claimed the strikes killed more civilians than militia members and destroyed seven houses. Scores of fatalities coded as 20. Some militia members escaped the air strikes and fled to the Kafin Koro area, where they later clashed with the military the following day (coded separately).
