On 12 May 2026, during a military operation (Op. Kiaarima), a Burkinabe army patrol struck an IED planted by an armed group (likely JNIM, based on location) at the Ougarou crossroads (Matiacoali, Gourma, Est). Three soldiers were injured. There were no fatalities.
