On 9 May 2026, in Popayan (Cauca), an unidentified individual planted and detonated an explosive device outside a commercial establishment at the intersection of 5th and 19th streets, in the La Esmeralda neighborhood. The suspect fled after leaving the explosive device at the premises and detonated it remotely, partially damaging the building and nearby houses. Authorities investigate whether the attack was linked to extortion gang. There were no casualties.
