On 4 May 2026, around 6:20pm Abu Dhabi time, suspected Iranian forces (coded as IRGC by default) launched an unspecified number of projectiles (coded as drones based on previous activity) targeting the JV Innovation oil/chemical tanker (IMO: 9276688) in the Persian Gulf, around 14 nm west of Mina Saqr. The attack set the vessel's deck on fire and caused damages to its ballast and cargo tank. There were no injuries. The ship's crew and owner are Chinese, and it the attack was the first targeting a Chinese-owned ship in this conflict. This took place amid the US/Israel-Iran conflict and a naval standoff and reciprocal blockade between the US and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
