SAA event in Mexico on Tue 19th May 2026
19th May 2026
Elements of the Mexican Army deployed security operations in Charapan, Michoacán, following intense clashes between rival criminal groups that resulted in drug cartel roadblocks and the burning of vehicles in the region. The military intervention and civilian intelligence work led to the seizure of criminal assets, including a Barrett rifle, three long guns, 32 magazines, 850 rounds of ammunition, four tactical vests, and an abandoned pickup truck. This area of the Purépecha Plateau has a long-standing territorial dispute between cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Viagras for control of strategic routes. Prosecutorial investigations are ongoing in the area to guarantee public order and strengthen the rule of law, although no arrests have been reported.
