SAA event in Mexico on Sat 16th May 2026

An armed group executed five young men inside a house located in the Cumbre de la Gloria neighborhood in the municipality of León. The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and their bodies were scattered throughout the entrance, living room, and dining room of the house. Three of the deceased were identified as 18-year-old Erik, 19-year-old Jonathan, and 36-year-old Agustín, while the other two victims remain unidentified, presumed to be minors. This mass killing contradicts the official narrative in a state where the control of illegal assets and territorial disputes keep public order in a state of constant tension. The incident occurred hours after the state governor highlighted a supposed reduction in regional violence, revealing shortcomings in the intelligence strategy and security operations implemented to guarantee regional stability. The northern part of León has a history of violence linked to local criminal cells seeking absolute control of the outlying neighborhoods. Given the lack of arrests and the ongoing investigations by the State Attorney General's Office, strengthening the rule of law remains the primary demand of citizens in one of the regions with the highest rates of intentional homicides in the country.
