A fierce armed confrontation in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood of Ciudad Obregón, in the municipality of Cajeme, resulted in the death of Third Class Police Officer Rubén Alfonso Ríos León, an active member of the State Public Security Police. This incident reflects the public order crisis plaguing the region, where the government and national security institutions are engaged in a constant struggle against criminal cells vying for control of illegal assets in southern Sonora.
