An intense chase and shootout in the early hours of Thursday in Colima City resulted in the deaths of two members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Among the deceased was a high-priority target for law enforcement, known by the alias "El Huesos" (The Bones). At a press conference, the state's Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calcáneo, reported that the coordinated deployment of state and federal agencies prevented the criminals from carrying out an execution they had planned for that same night. The operation began after a citizen's report to the 911 emergency number alerted authorities to the presence of armed civilians at a motel in Colima City. Upon arriving at the property, state police officers were met with gunfire from individuals in two vehicles, initiating an exchange of fire.
