A Federal Protection Service agent was killed in the line of duty and another was wounded after a chase and shootout with gunmen. The incident occurred Sunday morning in the municipality of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The ambush took place around 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of 3rd Street and the Periférico ring road. According to official reports, the federal agents had just finished their shift when a pickup truck rammed their vehicle. The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that a private pickup truck intentionally rammed the patrol car in which the officers were traveling. After the collision, the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee, prompting the Federal Protection Service officers to pursue the vehicle. During the chase, the occupants of the fleeing pickup truck began firing at the patrol car. A few minutes later, a second truck carrying armed men entered the road and opened fire in a coordinated manner against the public servants, who repelled the attack when they found themselves outnumbered and with their physical integrity in danger.
