According to local sources, intense fighting broke out on May 10 in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State—where Chinese investments are located—as the military launched offensives utilizing a naval base stationed near Sane town.

The fighting occurred near the Taung Maw Oo naval base, located over seven miles north of Sane town and about 17 miles south of Kyaukphyu town. A local resident stated that the Arakan Army (AA) had been surrounding and blockading the naval base for quite some time, and the clashes erupted because the military arrived to launch an offensive attack.
