IED event in Chhattisgarh, Gattakal, Kanker District area, India on Thu 14th May 2026

On May 14, 2026, a joint team of Security Forces (SFs) recovered and neutralised a large cache of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) explosives and munitions during a search operation in the forested areas of [...]Gattakal villages, regions long affected by Maoist activity in the Bastar Division in Kanker District in Chhattisgarh, reports Punjab Kesari. According to Police officials, the operation was part of intensified anti-Maoist patrolling and intelligence-based combing exercises in the area. The seized materials included two high-pressure cooker Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two pipe IEDs, five petrol bombs, 50 Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) rounds, Cordtex detonation cord and large quantities of electrical wiring. SFs stated that the site appeared to function as a Maoist dump or staging point for future attacks targeting SF convoys. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) safely destroyed the IEDs on the spot to avoid accidental explosions during transportation. Officials stated that the recovery significantly weakens the operational capabilities and logistics network of local Maoist cadres operating along the sensitive Kanker-Narayanpur axis.
