A mother and daughter were killed and two others were injured when military council troops fired on a vehicle carrying internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bilin Township, a Kawthoolei administrative area of the Karen National Union (KNU), according to a statement released by the KNU today, May 13.

On May 9 around 2:00 PM, a military reinforcement column ordered a vehicle carrying a driver and seven IDPs from Lay Kay village to stop on the Gu Wa Phaya Lay road at Lay Kay Mountain before opening fire with guns.
