SAA event in Mexico on Sat 9th May 2026
9th May 2026
A confrontation on the outskirts of Culiacán left two suspected assailants dead, one arrested, and resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition magazines, a grenade, and tactical gear during an operation by federal forces investigating a criminal cell linked to recent kidnappings in the area. The exchange of gunfire occurred when personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection were attacked by armed civilians near the municipality, prompting an immediate deployment of reinforcements to the area. After touring the area, we noted that the military and federal presence remains active on rural roads and access routes to the outskirts of Culiacán, where residents report constant patrol movements and overflights in a territory that has been a recurring scene of disputes between criminal organizations operating in Sinaloa. Preliminary reports from authorities confirm the seizure of five rifles, 41 magazines, a grenade, tactical vests, license plates, and a pickup truck with the inscription “MF.” These items reinforce the hypothesis of a cell with operational capacity in the region. The investigation remains open to locate more individuals involved and clarify the reach of the armed group in the area.
