Two men were killed and two others injured in a shooting this Saturday in Tepito, one of the areas with the highest crime and commercial activity in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. The attack occurred at the intersection of Tenochtitlán and Peñón streets in the Morelos neighborhood. According to preliminary reports, two hooded men arrived and opened fire on several people gathered in the street. Witnesses described scenes of panic among vendors and residents, as some businesses lowered their security shutters after hearing the gunshots. Upon arriving at the scene, police and paramedics found shell casings scattered near street vendor stalls and bloodstains along the sidewalks of the commercial area. Two men, ages 22 and 39, later died in hospitals from their injuries. Two injured women were also taken to the hospital. The Morelos neighborhood and the surrounding Tepito area have been plagued for years by disputes between criminal cells involved in drug dealing, extortion, and protection rackets. Armed attacks are frequent in this area, with assailants escaping through narrow streets and commercial corridors before police arrive. Officers from the Mexico City Police Department (SSC) cordoned off the area while forensic experts from the Attorney General's Office collected ballistic evidence and began their investigation. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage to trace the assailants' escape route. No arrests have been made so far.
