SAA event in Mexico on Sun 10th May 2026
10th May 2026
A shootout inside Plaza La Antigua in Atizapán de Zaragoza left one person wounded and prompted a large deployment of the Mexican Navy, municipal police, and agents from the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office on Sunday afternoon. Witnesses described tense moments among customers and employees who sought cover after hearing the gunshots inside the shopping center. According to reports from the scene, the main entrance remained partially cordoned off while security personnel reviewed storefronts and surveillance footage to reconstruct the events. The victim was taken to a local hospital under police guard. No arrests or motives for the attack have been reported so far. Atizapán de Zaragoza has seen several episodes of violence in recent years, including armed attacks and chases in urban and commercial areas of the Valley of Mexico, a region where federal and state authorities have reinforced operations in response to the increase in high-impact crimes. The City Council assured that the situation was under control and ruled out risks to the population, while the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico continues its investigation to identify those responsible.
