SAA event in Mexico on Tue 12th May 2026
12th May 2026
An armed attack against Noé Torres Martínez, the former PRI candidate for mayor of Chicontepec, Veracruz, left the politician wounded in the shoulder after he was intercepted by armed men in the town center. The incident occurred on Adolfo López Mateos Avenue, where he was shot multiple times before the assailants fled. A security operation involving various law enforcement agencies was deployed in the area, but no arrests were made. The case has once again raised concerns in northern Veracruz, an area with a history of violence and local power struggles that have affected political figures in various elections. Previous reports indicate that this is not the first time Torres Martínez has been targeted, as he was also allegedly attacked during his participation in the 2025 election. Following the attack, he was taken to an IMSS Bienestar hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and out of danger. The investigation remains open with no progress in identifying the perpetrators.
