On 7 May 2026, an IED planted by an unidentified group (likely ISWAP/Boko Haram (JAS) based on activity in the area) exploded when a commercial vehicle drove over it along the Monguno-Maiduguri Road, on the outskirts of Monguno (Monguno, Borno). 2 civilians were killed and two others were injured.
