On 13/6/2019, two ships, one carrying oil owned by a Norwegian company and the other transporting a cargo of chemicals owned by a Japanese company , were attacked in international waters in the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz. The US has accused Iran of the attacks, claiming the explosions were caused by limpet mines. The Japanese owner of one of ships said that sailors on board saw flying objects before it was hit, and suggested that it was damaged by some kind of projectile. Iran has categorically denied any involvement.
