On 4 May 2026, at around 8:00 pm, an unknown armed group detonated a bomb (type of explosive not specified) near the Presidential Office of the Interim Administration of Tigray and the regional council building in Mekele (Mekelle Tigray, Tigray). There were no casualties or property damage. The explosion occurred amid escalating tensions between the federal government and the TPLF, a day before the TPLF's scheduled general meeting of the reinstated pre-war regional council in defiance of the federal government's decision to extend the Interim Administration's term for one more year.
