UAV event in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Galczyce area, Poland on Thu 12th March 2026
12th March 2026
An unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle was discovered on the territory of a brown coal mine in the village of Galczyce, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship of Poland.
An employee of the company reported the discovery, after which emergency services were immediately called to the scene, RMF 24 reports .
Groups of police officers from Konin and Poznań immediately arrived at the site, securing the perimeter and isolating the discovery area for investigative actions.
Officials confirm that no one was injured in the incident and there is no threat to mine workers.
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that he had already received a detailed report on the situation. The corresponding report was provided to the head of the defense ministry by the Commander of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of the country.
In a conversation with journalists, the head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that the Military Gendarmerie and the police are jointly dealing with the case.
According to unofficial information from RMF FM journalist Krzysztof Zasada, the drone found in Galczyce resembles the Russian Gerbera in its characteristics. This model of drone has already appeared in official reports of the Polish army during past attacks.
The drone's similarity to those that flew into Poland over the eastern border last September has led to speculation about its origin. Investigators are investigating whether the drone is part of that massive wave of airspace violations.
In particular, on the night of September 10, 2025, during the Russian attack on Ukraine, more than twenty drones of this type could have crossed the Polish border. Then, the Polish side recorded such a large-scale violation of its airspace for the first time.
Fragments of those drones were later found in various parts of the country for a long time.
Before launching to Poland, the Russians equipped the Gerber drones with additional fuel tanks, which increased their flight range.
The drone comes standard with a single fuel tank located in the tail. The drones that crashed in the country had an additional tank in the nose.
