On May 7, Leilma, an Islamili woman and wife of Salam Maftoon, a local singer was killed in Ishkashim Bazaar of Ishkashim District in Badakhshan Province, reports Afghanistan International. The attacker used a hunting rifle. She ran a tailoring workshop in a women’s market in Ishkashim established by the Aga Khan Foundation. Salam Maftoon had previously been detained by the Taliban and was later released following mediation by local elders.
