SAA event in Jharkhand, Latehar District area, India on Tue 5th May 2026

On May 5, a ‘sub-zonal commander’ of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was arrested with arms and ammunition during a raid in Latehar District of Jharkhand, reports The Print. The 42-year-old cadre, (identity being ascertained) associated with TSPC for around 15 years, was apprehended from his residence under Chandwa Police Station limits following specific intelligence inputs. According to Police, at least 16 criminal cases are pending against him across multiple Districts. During the operation, Police recovered a pistol, seven cartridges, a mobile phone, and other incriminating materials. Ranchi Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Goswami stated that, during interrogation, the arrested cadre disclosed details about his squad members. Several of his associates have already been neutralised or arrested in earlier operations by Security Forces (SFs), while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining operatives and take action against their support network. A case was registered at Burmu Police Station on May 4, and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody. The arrest is seen as a significant development in ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the region.
