Local residents told Khit Thit Media that a 7-year-old girl died after being shot in the chest by the military while they were pursuing and shooting at two youths who fled an attempted forced recruitment (portering) in Phyu, Bago Region.

On April 28, the military attempted to arrest two youths in Wea Daung (Middle) Village, within the town of Phyu, to force them into military service. When the two youths fled, the soldiers opened fire to stop them. During the shooting, a 7-year-old girl from the village was struck by a bullet and killed.
