IED event in Colombia on Fri 24th April 2026
24th April 2026
Direct attack on military zone in Cali. This morning, an explosive device detonated near the Pichincha Military Base, shaking the area and causing panic among those nearby. The attack was precise: a blow against security infrastructure in a city already burdened by a history of urban violence. Preliminary reports attribute the attack to the Jaime Martínez structure, a faction of FARC dissidents operating in southwestern Colombia, particularly in Valle del Cauca and Cauca. This group has been implicated in attacks with explosives and harassment of state forces, following a pattern of armed pressure in strategic corridors. Cali is no stranger to these incidents. In recent years, the city has been a focal point of tension due to the presence of armed cells seeking to contest territorial control and send direct messages to the authorities. What happened today fits into that logic: immediate media impact and open challenge. The event once again highlights the operational capacity of these groups and their vulnerability in key urban areas. The investigation is ongoing to accurately establish responsibilities.
