SAA event in Mexico on Thu 23rd April 2026
23rd April 2026
One agent was killed and two others were seriously wounded in a direct attack on state police officers in Jalapa, Tabasco. On Thursday afternoon, in the Benito González neighborhood—known as Tequila—armed men ambushed members of the Deputy Attorney General's Office for High-Impact Crimes and opened fire. The agents managed to repel the attack, but one was killed at the scene and two others sustained gunshot wounds and were urgently evacuated to the Macuspana Regional Hospital. Sources close to the incident indicated that the gunfire could be heard for several minutes, forcing residents to take cover. The area is no stranger to violence. Jalapa and its surroundings have been identified as operational hubs for cells linked to fuel trafficking and local organized crime routes, where operations often end in confrontations. Following the attack, the Olmeca Special Operations Force (FIRT Olmeca) deployed a large operation in the Tequila ranchería and surrounding areas, in addition to reinforcing security at the hospital. The State Attorney General's Office remains silent on possible arrests, while pressure mounts to clarify who ambushed the agents and under what interests the attack was carried out.
