The Latvian Air Force recorded the intrusion of foreign unmanned aerial vehicles into Latvia's airspace from the direction of Russia.
According to Ukrinform, LSM stated this in an article.
At around 05:30, the National Armed Forces of Latvia reported that two drones had been detected after crashing on Latvian territory, and that units of the armed forces, State Police, and the State Fire and Rescue Service were working at the scene.
At about 03:30, police received a report that smoke had been seen at an oil product storage facility in Rēzekne.
Preliminary information indicates that a drone may have crashed at the site. Emergency services are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Later, the chairman of the Rēzekne Regional Council, Guntars Skudra, confirmed that one of the drones had crashed on the territory of the Rēzekne branch of East-West Transit.
The drone hit an empty oil storage tank.
Meanwhile, classes in all educational institutions in Rēzekne and across the Rēzekne and Ludza districts were canceled on Thursday, May 7.
In the Balvi Municipality, authorities decided that schools would switch to remote learning, while kindergartens would remain open.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, debris from a drone of unknown origin was discovered in Latvia on April 1.
