IED event in Salyan area, Nepal on Sat 2nd May 2026
2nd May 2026
A total of 86 bombs of various types have been discovered inside the premises of the District Police Office, Salyan.
The devices were found buried underground during excavation for the foundation of a new building, police said.
Inspector Purna KC, information officer at the District Police Office, said the recovered items include 82 socket bombs and four improvised explosive devices.
Further excavation led to the recovery of seven radio communication devices, around 500 grams of explosives, two kilograms of bomb-making materials, and 10 metres of firing cable, KC said.
All the items were found in a corroded condition. Police said preliminary findings suggest the explosives may have been buried for security reasons during the Maoist insurgency.
Two teams of the Nepali Army—one led by Lieutenant Krishna Chhetri from the Siddhibox Battalion in Simkharka and another led by Captain Shri Prasad Ramjali from the Kalibhakti Battalion in Bhairahawa—have reached the site.
Preparations are under way to transport the explosives to a safe location for disposal, KC said.
