SAA event in Costa Rica on Thu 30th April 2026
30th April 2026
One man was killed and another seriously wounded in a targeted attack on Thursday afternoon, April 30, in the Trinidad neighborhood of Limón, the central canton of Costa Rica. The victims were riding motorcycles when they were struck by bullets in front of a convenience store. After surveying the area, we observed that the pavement still bore shards of glass and skid marks from the exact spot where the gunman intercepted the motorcyclists. The deceased man lay dead at the scene, while the survivor was rushed to Tony Facio Hospital in a private vehicle and is in critical condition. The assailant followed his targets for at least 400 meters before opening fire, a common modus operandi in this region of the Costa Rican Caribbean, where disputes between local drug cartels have fueled a surge in homicides. The central canton of Limón remains one of the hotspots for contract killings due to its logistical importance for shipping drugs to Europe and North America. Law enforcement agents collected evidence at the scene to try to identify the shooter by analyzing security camera footage from the business. The area remains under surveillance due to fears of reprisals between rival groups operating in the port's outlying neighborhoods.
