Friday began with gunfire in Tonalá: an attempted robbery at a Bodega Aurrera store ended in a direct shootout with police. Three men entered the store, located at the intersection of Independencia and Periférico Oriente, in the Pinar de Las Palomas neighborhood. The alarm was triggered, and when municipal police arrived, they were met with gunfire. The response was immediate: an exchange of shots in the middle of the urban area, with residents taking cover as best they could. In the midst of the joint operation with the State Police, the Jalisco Attorney General's Office, and law enforcement agencies from Tlaquepaque, one of the assailants was arrested at the scene. The other two scattered. One made his way to Secondary School 122 and managed to escape despite the police cordon. The other fled toward the brickyard area, captured on camera carrying a long gun near the intersection of Zaragoza and Coyula streets. Tonalá is no stranger to these scenarios: the eastern part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area has a history of frequent reports of violent robberies and criminal cells operating with high-powered weapons, even in commercial zones. The arrested man is now in the hands of the Public Prosecutor's Office, while the other two remain at large after an operation that, despite the deployment, was not fully concluded.
