JAKARTA - Pakistani artillery fired a grenade into the border area with Afghanistan, namely Kunar Province, killing three civilians and injuring 14 others.

"The Pakistani military regime continues its war crimes, deliberately targeting civilian homes, schools, health centers, and mosques in Dangam District, Kunar Province, near the Durand Line. In this attack, in addition to material losses, three civilians were killed and 14 others were injured, the majority of them women and children," said Deputy Spokesperson for the Afghan Government Hamdullah Fitrat as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 5.

Fitrat said two schools, including one for girls, were damaged by the attack. Then, one health center and two mosques were completely destroyed.

In early April, Afghanistan and Pakistan held peace talks in Urumqi, China. The negotiations were carried out amid a wave of new military confrontations on the border, triggered by Pakistan's attack on several provinces in Afghanistan, including Kabul, on February 22.

At least 400 people were reported killed and more than 250 others wounded in a Pakistani air strike on a hospital for drug rehabilitation in Kabul on March 16.

During the Eid al-Fitr holiday, on March 20-22, Afghanistan and Pakistan announced a temporary ceasefire, although Pakistan reportedly violated the ceasefire several times.

Previous rounds of talks between Kabul and Islamabad were held in Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia; but to no avail.
