On 20 April 2026, Russian forces (units of the 'West' group using operational-tactical aviation, combat UAVs, missile forces, and artillery) struck the Ukrainian personnel and equipment of three mechanized brigades and two territorial defense brigades (coded to Lyman) near Velyka Shapkivka, Kharkiv. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian military lost: 2 armored combat vehicles, 18 vehicles, 2 artillery pieces, 2 ammo depots and up to 195 Ukrainian servicemen were killed near Velyka Shapkivka, Borova, Novoserhiivka, Shyikivka, Kutkivka, Svyatohirsk and Lyman [Russian MoD reported 195 fatalities.
