CBRN event in Chile on Fri 1st May 2026
1st May 2026
Chilean police fired water cannons at hooded protesters on Friday, May 1, as unions and social organisations marched to mark International Workers' Day. Water cannon and tear gas were used to clear a group of hooded protesters who vandalised buildings and public infrastructure, according to Chilean media reports. A protester interviewed by Reuters said workers rights were under threat from the far-right government of Jose Antonio Kast. This was the first May Day of Kast's term. The protests took place as the government and the Central Workers' Union were in talks to increase the minimum wage, currently some $600, Chilean media reported. | via Reuters
