A major terrorist attack on a Mazanga Police Post in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Bannu was foiled on Wednesday, with security forces killing one terrorist and injuring five others.According to the K-P Police Directorate of Public Relations, the attack took place at approximately 1:20 am when a large group of armed terrorists targeted the police post using heavy weapons.“Police personnel stationed inside the post responded immediately, engaging the attackers in a sustained exchange of fire that continued until morning,” it said.The statement added that under the supervision of Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Yasir Afridi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arshad Khan, and teams from the Rapid Response Force (RRF) and Quick Response Force (QRF), reinforcements quickly reached the site.“During the operation, search teams recovered traces of blood from multiple locations, suggesting casualties among the attackers,” it added. “Taking advantage of the darkness, the other terrorists fled the area along with their injured and dead accomplices.”K-P police said that several items were recovered from the scene, including magazines, hand grenades, bandoliers, ladders, shoes, shawls, and other equipment.“One dead body of terrorist was also recovered from the site, while the search for additional bodies is ongoing,” it added.According to the statement, during the intense exchange of fire, Constable Fareedullah sustained minor injuries and was shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.The Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the swift response of the Bannu Police, announcing cash rewards and commendation certificates for the personnel involved in repelling the attack.K-P IG Zulfiqar Hameed said the police continue to serve as a frontline force against terrorism and remain committed on all fronts. Bannu Regional Police Officer Sajad Khan said the police force stood “like a steel wall” against all forms of terrorism.
