An encounter between cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and Security Forces (SFs) took place in the Rutugutu area under Tonto Police Station limits in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand during the early hours of April 29, 2026, reports ETV Bharat. The exchange of fire began at around 4:30 AM when personnel of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 209 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), engaged in a large-scale search operation, were fired upon by Maoists. The SFs retaliated, resulting in a prolonged gunfight that continued for several hours. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Renu confirmed the incident, stating that a massive search operation is underway and the area has been cordoned off, with additional forces deployed to prevent the escape of the Maoists. According to reports, SFs had been conducting combing operations over the past two days in areas under Goilkera Police Station limits, including Boroi and Toonbeda.
