On April 29, two unidentified youths hurled a grenade at a shop owned by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in the Islamabad area of Gurdaspur District on April 28 around 8:30 pm, but it failed to detonate as the pin was not removed, reports The Tribune. The shop belongs to the family of late Ashok Sharma, former executive member of the state BJP and ex-director of PUNBUS and Punjab Forest Corporation (PFC). Police said the grenade could have caused “immense damage” in the crowded area had it exploded. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya said CCTV footage is being examined, and a bomb disposal squad from Amritsar defused the device.
