On April 25, as many as 47 underground cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), primarily from Chhattisgarh, surrendered before Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivdhar Reddy in Hyderabad, reports SocialNews.XYZ). The surrendered included a senior leader, Hemla Iythu alias Vijja, member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and in-charge of the South Bastar Divisional Committee (DVC). The group comprised four People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) cadres, 28 from DKSZC, and 15 from the 9th and 30th platoons of South Bastar DVC. They surrendered 32 firearms, one Light Machine Gun (LMG), four AK-47 rifles, three Self Loading Rifle (SLR) rifles, two INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifles, two 410 musket rifles, one 8 mm rifle, 12 single-shot guns, one 9 mm pistol, one revolver, two Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), guns, two air guns and one Smooth-Bore Breech-Loading (SBBL) gun along with 515 live ammunition of various calibre. The DGP attributed the surrenders to Telangana’s rehabilitation policy and sustained Police outreach. He noted that most key leaders of South Bastar DVC have been neutralised, pushing the formation towards collapse. Podium Lachu alias Manoj Divisional Committee Member (DVCM) and 12 Area Committee Members (ACMs) were among those who surrendered. An estimated INR 15 million reward will be disbursed, with INR 25,000 interim relief already provided. In 2026, 260 Maoists have surrendered and 238 firearms recovered in Telangana, indicating significant weakening of the outfit.
