25th April 2026
On April 25, Police arrested two drug peddlers, identified as Swaran Singh and Shamsher Singh alias Shera, in connection with the seizure of 64.5 kilograms of heroin in Amritsar district of Punjab, reports The Tribune. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to hiding a weapon consignment in the Ajnala border area in Amritsar, including around 20 pistols and an AK assault rifle, smuggled via drones from Pakistan, exposing a suspected Pakistan-backed arms trafficking network. The duo was arrested by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) and is linked to a cross-border drug and arms smuggling network operating through drone drops along the Indo-Pak border. Investigations indicate coordination with handlers abroad, including Portugal-based Harpartap Singh alias Happo, suspected of links with Pakistan-based operatives under the alias Moosa. Following the disclosure, security agencies and the Border Security Force (BSF) launched search operations in the Ajnala sector.
