SAA event in Chhattisgarh, Kanker District area, India on Mon 20th April 2026
20th April 2026
On April 20, a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘commander’, Darsu Sori, carrying a bounty of INR 800,000, surrendered before Police in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh, along with one AK-47 assault rifle and electronic communication gadgets, reports Deccan Chronicle. Sori was identified as a Platform Party Committee Member (PPCM) of Company No. 5 of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), operating under the North Bastar Division Committee (NBDC). According to Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikhil Rakecha, Sori surrendered to return to the mainstream. A PPCM functions at the ‘platform’ level within Maoist organisational structures, linked to Area Committees and Platoon Sections, and is typically involved in logistics, planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and section-level command within the PLGA. Police sources indicated that follow-up efforts are underway to persuade other active cadres to surrender, based on inputs provided by Sori. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) P. Sunderraj welcomed the surrender and renewed appeals to remaining cadres to lay down arms.
