IED event in Knyaze-Volkonskoye-1 area, Russian Federation on Tue 28th April 2026

In the Khabarovsk Territory of the Russian Federation, an attempt was made on the life of Russian Major General Azatbek Omurbekov, who in 2022 commanded the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade during the occupation of Bucha.

Details: It is reported that the assassination attempt on the Russian major general was carried out at a military garrison in the village of Knyaze-Volkonskoye-1 in the Khabarovsk Territory.

Thus, on April 28, an explosive device planted in a mailbox went off on the territory of the garrison.

One person was killed — the commander of the training communications battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Kuzmenko (his name is not mentioned). Several people were injured.

It is unknown what condition Omurbekov is in.

One of the pro-government Russian publications in Khabarovsk reported that the general "miraculously survived."

The explosion was not officially reported.

Several Russian journalists called Omurbekov after the news of the explosion, but he did not answer the call. His wife also has not been reached.

Reference: In the spring of 2022, Omurbekov commanded the 64th Motorized Rifle Brigade, which was trying to occupy the Kyiv region. His subordinates said that Omurbekov ordered to kill "everyone (civilians - ed.) who had phones" and to fire on cars carrying civilians.

When Omurbekov returned from the front, he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia. He is under sanctions by the US, the European Union, and other Western countries.

Since 2023, Omurbekov has headed the 392nd District Training Center for Training Junior Specialists of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation.

The GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that soldiers of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade, commanded by Omurbekov, were involved in the mass murders and torture of civilians in Bucha.
