On 20 April 2026, Russian forces (units of the 'North' group using operational-tactical aviation, combat UAVs, missile forces, and artillery) struck the Ukrainian personnel and equipment of two mechanized brigades and a territorial defense brigade (coded to Izbytske) near Nova Sich, Sumy. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian military lost: 1 armored personnel carrier, 13 vehicles, 1 field artillery gun, an electronic warfare station, an ammunition depot, 14 supply depots and up to 190 Ukrainian servicemen were killed near Kindrativka, Ternova, Nova Sich, Myropillia, Izbytske, Pavlivka, Khrapivshchyna, Zemlianky and Khotin [Russian MoD reported 190 fatalities.
