On 18 April 2026, the Nigerien army launched a drone strike against members of the Tondiwindi Communal Militia who had gathered under a tree in the area Deye (Ouallam, Tillaberi), killing 2 and injuring more than twenty-six others. The militia members were targeted by mistake as the Nigerien air force confused them for armed militants. Earlier on the same day the Tondiwindi Communal Militia had repelled an attack by armed militants in Deye (coded separately).
