Projectile event in Oman on Sat 18th April 2026
18th April 2026
On 18 April 2026, around 4:10pm Muscat time, Iranian IRGC forces opened fire (coded as Shelling) at the Mein Schiff 4 passenger (cruise) ship (IMO: 9678408) in the Strait of Hormuz, around 3 nm east of Oman close to the Coast of Jazirat Musandam, as it was attempting to leave the Persian Gulf. There were no casualties, as the vessel was not hit directly, reporting instead 'a splash in close proximity'. The vessel had received threats from the IRGC that it would be 'fired upon and destroyed' before it proceeded out of the area. The attack occurred in the context of the IRGC announcing on the same day that it will reimpose a total blockade on the Strait of Hormuz as a response to the refusal of the US to lift its naval blockade on Iran. Four passenger (cruise) ships successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz out of the Persian Gulf that day, by sailing close to the Omani coast: the Celestyal Journey (IMO: 8919269), the MSC Euribia (IMO: 9901544), the Mein Schiff 4 (IMO: 9678408), and the Mein Schiff 5 (IMO: 9753193).
