At approximately 6:00 PM on April 21, a group of about 20 soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militia members advanced toward Si Yin Oo village. Revolutionary forces detonated mines near a rest house (zayat) close to the village as the column approached.

Following the explosion, about 10 reinforcements arrived to retrieve the wounded and dead before the entire unit retreated toward Salin.
