SAA event in Lviv area, Ukraine on Thu 23rd April 2026

Police have detained a man who opened fire in a residential high-rise building in Lviv on the morning of April 23.

Source : National Police spokesperson Yulia Girdvilis in a comment to "Ukrainian Pravda", Lviv region police on Telegram 

Girdvilis's direct speech: "There was a call about a shooting in an apartment. A special police unit arrived and detained a man who was shooting in the apartment."

Details : According to her, there were no casualties.

An investigative and operational team is currently working at the scene.

Updated : Later, the Lviv Oblast Police added that the report of shots fired in a house on Grinchenko Street was received by law enforcement officers at 9:02 a.m.

"The shooter was a 34-year-old resident of one of the apartments in the building who has mental disorders. The shots were fired in the apartment from a Flaubert revolver, which the man threw out the window when he saw the law enforcement officers," the police said.

The weapon was seized and sent for expert examination. The man was taken to a special medical facility.

The issue of the legal qualification of the event is currently being resolved.

Prehistory:

- On April 18, a man opened fire on people in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv , killing 7 local residents. More than 10 people were injured. The shooter was eliminated.

- Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko then stated that people should have the right to armed self-defense .

- On April 22, police reported that a car driver in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv shot several times at a pedestrian crossing the road in an unspecified location; the shooter was detained.
