On April 10, 42 cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion Chief Sodi Keshalu alias Sodi Kesha alias Malla alias Nikhil, surrendered before Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad, reports Hindustan Times. The group, which moved from the Karregutta Forest region along the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border, included Telangana State Committee (TSC) member Narayana and several Divisional Committee Members (DVCMs) from the Bhadradri Kothagudem and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts of the banned outfit. They surrendered with 36 firearms, including five AK-47s, four Self-Loading Rifles (SLR), 1,007 rounds of ammunition, and approximately 800 grams of gold. The DGP stated that a total reward of ?1.93 crore would be disbursed under the Rehabilitation Scheme. He added that recent leadership shifts within PLGA, including the surrender of former Battalion Chief Badse Deva, had weakened the outfit. Police claimed that with these surrenders, CPI-Maoist’s organisational presence in Telangana has been neutralised. Since 2024, 761 Maoists have surrendered before Telangana Police. Earlier, SATP reported that on April 6, nearly 30 cadres of the CPI-Maoist surrendered before Telangana Police, including a senior People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) functionary, in Hyderabad, stands corrected.
