Mine event in Bandarban, Chhayapara, Bandarban District area, Bangladesh on Thu 9th April 2026

On April 9, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered anti-personnel mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during operation at the Naiksyangchhari border in Bandarban District, reports Prothom Alo. Based on intelligence information, a patrol team of Targupara BOP under the BGB's Naikshongchhari Battalion (11 BGB) conducted a special operation in the Chhayapara area between pillars 53 and 54 of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. During search, five anti-personnel mines, five possible IEDs, a metal detector, a solar panel, some dry food items, a mobile phone, a power bank and some ordinary clothes were recovered. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faizul Kabir, Commander of Naikshongchhari Battalion, said, "BGB is performing its duties with utmost vigilance and professionalism to address the multidimensional security challenges existing on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Recently, the risk of setting up IEDs and anti-personnel mines in the border area and the trend of smuggling flammable chemicals are being observed, which is a threat to the overall security of the country. In this context, BGB has strengthened intelligence activities, increased regular patrols and continued coordinated operations."
