Missile event in Odesa area, Ukraine on Thu 16th April 2026

Nine people were killed and 23 others injured in a Russian missile and drone strike on Odessa on the night of April 16.

Kiper's direct speech: "Unfortunately, as a result of the night shelling in Odessa, 9 people have been confirmed dead, and another 23 people were injured... Search and rescue operations and the elimination of the consequences are ongoing on the ground."

Details : According to the head of the MVA, the strikes damaged infrastructure facilities and a residential building in the Khadzhibey district, and the blast wave also broke out more than 300 windows in several buildings.

There is also damage to one of the parks in the Primorsky district. Relevant services are working on the ground.

Later, the head of the OVA, Oleg Kiper, reported that in Odessa, port, critical, and residential infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of the night attack.

"In at least three high-rise buildings, the facade walls and glazing were destroyed, the dormitory and adjacent buildings were damaged. As a result of the shelling, fires broke out at certain infrastructure facilities. Work is underway to localize the consequences," the head of the OVA noted.

Updated: After 10 a.m., Lysak reported that the occupiers struck the city again, resulting in 3 people being injured.

"The morning in Odessa began again with an enemy attack. In one of the districts, the roof of a car dealership was damaged, the glass in the building was broken, and the cars inside were vandalized. One of the city's markets was also damaged, with three people injured there... In another district, a private house and a car were damaged in the attack,"  the head of the MVA reported.

"Suspilne" writes that April 16 was declared a day of mourning in Odessa.
