SAA event in Zakarpattia, Chop area, Ukraine on Thu 16th April 2026

The 15-year-old teenager who opened fire at a high school in the city of Chop in Transcarpathia was given a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.

Verbatim : "At the request of the juvenile prosecutor of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office, the investigating judge of the Uzhhorod City District Court chose a preventive measure for the suspect - detention in custody for a period of 60 days without the possibility of posting bail."

Details : Based on the available evidence, the young man's actions are qualified as a completed attempt to intentionally cause the death of two or more people, i.e. a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 15, Clause 1, Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, a 15-year-old teenager ordered a stun gun, lead pellets, and blank cartridges online in February-March of this year. He later made structural changes to the gun and cartridges, making them suitable for murder.

On April 16, at around 9:30 a.m., the suspect brought a converted weapon to school and fired several shots from a pistol at his classmates. One of the bullets hit a student in the shoulder. The suspect then fled the school. He was promptly detained and the weapon was seized.

The investigation is currently ongoing, all versions of the investigation are being worked out and the motives for the teenager's actions are being established.

What preceded it : On April 16, police reported that a student opened fire and wounded a classmate in one of the educational institutions in the Uzhhorod district of Transcarpathia.

Later, the police released video from the body cameras of patrol officers who arrested a minor for shooting at a school in Transcarpathia.
