A large deployment of the National Defense Secretariat was registered last night in the República Mexicana neighborhood, in the south of the city, following reports of an armed attack on a residence and the arson of a vehicle. According to sources directly from the scene, the military intervention in the vicinity of Avenida México 68 and Leyes de Reforma, one block from Parque 87, resulted in the apprehension of two armed civilians. The men were intercepted in the area by federal agents, who found sufficient evidence to presume their direct involvement in the violent events reported minutes earlier. Upon arriving at the scene on Azucena Street, the atmosphere was tense, marked by the smell of smoke and the traces of destruction. Neighbors told us that bursts of gunfire were heard intensely around 9:15 p.m., generating panic. A stolen car was found at the scene. The attackers used it to ram the gate of the house by reversing into it, and then set it on fire. The fire consumed the vehicle while the gate lay destroyed on the ground. Culiacán Volunteer Firefighters responded to extinguish the flames, confirming that no one was injured inside the vandalized property. This attack, carried out with impactful tactics such as using a stolen vehicle as a battering ram and arsonist, reveals a level of audacity aimed at sending clear messages between rival factions, not just damaging property. Sources at the scene indicate that the rapid response of the Mexican Army (SEDENA), which even involved rooftop searches with the support of the State Police, prevented the escape of two suspected perpetrators. The seizure of a 5.6mm rifle, another multi-caliber rifle, six magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition, and tactical gear (holsters, holsters) in a busy area near a family park like Park 87 underscores the volatility and constant risk to civilians in residential areas of the south. The pattern of breaking down gates and setting fire to stolen cars is becoming increasingly common as a method of direct intimidation. Military personnel secured the perimeter in the República Mexicana neighborhood while the corresponding procedures and evidence collection were carried out. The two individuals arrested and all the seized weapons were transferred to the appropriate federal authorities, who will determine their legal status and the course of the investigation.
